A Somerset-based counselling charity that supports cancer patients and their loved ones is on the brink of closure, facing a dire financial situation that could see it shut down unless it raises £55,000 by April. We Hear You (WHY), a Frome-based charity with 31 years of experience, has been a lifeline for around 500 people annually, offering them a safe space to discuss their cancer journey. WHY's services have been crucial for many, with 46% of adults and 58% of children reporting improved well-being after using the charity's support. However, rising costs and a decline in income have put the charity in a challenging position. Chief Operating Officer Lucy Kitchener remains optimistic about the charity's future, emphasizing the team's efforts to ensure its survival. The charity's impact is evident in the stories of those it has helped, like Rachel Notley, whose partner's cancer diagnosis made her realize the importance of such support. Now, as the charity scrambles to raise funds, it's a critical moment for the organization, highlighting the need for continued support and awareness.
