Cycling to Every Away Match! | Chertsey Town FC Fan's Epic Journey for IBD Awareness (2026)

A heartwarming initiative is underway as a dedicated football fan embarks on an extraordinary journey to support a cause close to his heart. Jake Warner, a passionate supporter of Chertsey Town FC, has taken on the challenge of cycling to every away match this season, covering an impressive distance of up to 260 miles (418km) for the most distant fixture! But here's the twist: he embarked on this adventure without even glancing at the fixture list!

Jake, from Surrey, UK, reveals that this courageous endeavor is inspired by his desire to raise awareness for inflammatory bowel disease, specifically Crohn's & Colitis UK. He explains, "It's something I wanted to do for my dad. The illness affects him personally, so this is my way of showing support."

Crohn's disease and colitis are the primary forms of inflammatory bowel disease, as highlighted by the charity. In the UK, approximately one in 120 people suffer from either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, with symptoms ranging from stomach pain and diarrhoea to weight loss and fatigue, according to the NHS.

As Jake pedals his way through the season, he's not only raising awareness but also connecting with a community of fellow sufferers. "The more I've cycled, the more people I've met who are affected by this illness. Although it's a small percentage of the population, it's a tight-knit community," he shared with BBC Radio Surrey.

And this is the part most people miss: the power of community and support. Jake's journey highlights the importance of raising awareness and the impact it can have on those affected.

So, what keeps Jake going on those long rides? He admits, "The beer helps to keep me awake!" A lighthearted moment amidst a serious cause.

Chertsey Town FC plays in the Southern League Premier South, and Jake's dedication to his team and cause is truly inspiring.

What do you think about Jake's initiative? Is it a brilliant way to raise awareness, or does it raise questions about the limits of physical endurance? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
