A fire significantly impacted the Redwood Meadows fire station located to the west of Calgary, causing extensive damage on Wednesday evening.
The incident began around 5:15 PM in the back hall of the facility, which serves as a vital emergency service provider for not only the Redwood Meadows community but also for nearby Bragg Creek and parts of Kananaskis Country, approximately 40 kilometers from Calgary.
In a timely update shared on Facebook at 5:35 PM, Redwood Meadows Emergency Service (RMES) reported that the rear section of the building was fully engulfed in flames. Fortunately, they confirmed that the front hall remained unaffected and that the surrounding forest was not at risk of catching fire.
Responding quickly to the emergency, fire crews from Rocky View County were summoned to combat the blaze. They successfully brought the fire under control by 6 PM, with complete extinguishment achieved by approximately 7 PM. In addition to the fire crews, Tsuut’ina police, EMS, and ATCO also joined in to provide their assistance during the incident.
Firefighters remained on-site throughout the night to monitor for any lingering hotspots that could reignite. Sadly, the inferno resulted in the destruction of several pieces of equipment, including four vehicles such as the 120 Engine, a pickup truck, and a bush buggy, as reported by RMES on their social media platform.
Additionally, a nearby building owned by Eastlink, a telecommunications company, suffered significant damage due to the fire, leading to severe disruptions in the company’s network services, as confirmed by a spokesperson.
