They accuse a handful of companies of holding our basic needs hostage, squeezing the population for profit.
Metro, a major grocery chain, responded by stating that shoplifting is a criminal act and unacceptable. They cited various factors influencing price increases, including global supply chain disruptions, volatile commodity prices, and retail crime. According to the Retail Council of Canada, retail crime is on the rise, accounting for over $9 billion in lost sales in 2024.
