The country's reputation as a global leader in cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery is attracting visitors seeking preventive medicine and extensive diagnostic testing. This trend is particularly notable among Black women, who face disproportionately high rates of cardiovascular disease and hypertension, often experiencing delays in diagnosis and treatment in the US. South Korea's patient-first approach, with employers and the government subsidizing health checkups, offers a comprehensive and efficient experience. The country's focus on early detection and prevention, rather than intervention, is a stark contrast to the US healthcare system. This shift in perspective is not limited to healthcare but extends to skincare, where Korean products and methods are gaining popularity for their gentle and inclusive approach. The positive experiences of Black women in South Korea highlight the systemic inequities in the US healthcare system, where symptoms are often minimized or dismissed, forcing patients to become their own advocates.
